Biography: The folk rock singer/songwriter and guitarist has music in his blood — his father, Lenny Goldsmith, was the lead singer of the ’80s band Tower of Power.
Taylor followed in his footsteps from an early age, forming his first band, Simon Dawes, with former classmate Blake Mills in high school. Their debut album, Carnivore, was released in 2006, but the band broke up one year later when Mills quit.
Taylor went on to form a subsequent band, Dawes, with his younger brother Griffin Goldsmith, Tay Strathairn and Wylie Gelber in 2009. The band’s most recent effort, Passwords, was released in June 2018.
The musician has also been involved in several side projects over the years, including Middle Brother (2010) and New Basement Tapes (2014), and performed as a session artist for singers including Jackson Browne, John Fogerty and more.
Taylor met his wife, Mandy Moore, on Instagram in May 2015 after the This Is Us actress shared a post about a Dawes album she liked. The couple got engaged in September 2017 and married in a romantic ceremony in L.A. on November 18, 2018.
